Background

After completing medical school, Dr. Hashmi studied at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health for a Master in Public Health, focusing on Health Policy and Management. Upon graduation, she was hired by Natural Standard, a company focused on Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Hashmi, then completed her Adult Psychiatry Residency at University of Connecticut in Farmington, CT and Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. Her last year of residency was focused on thought and mood disorders among veterans and their families. Dr. Hashmi completed a Forensic Psychiatry fellowship at Yale school of Medicine in New Haven, CT.

She accepted a faculty position at Brown University affiliated Rhode Island Hospital in 2010. There, she worked for six years as an Assistant Clinical Professor, staff psychiatrist and later as an Assistant Director of the Psychiatric Emergency Services. In 2013, she completed a fellowship in psychoanalysis from the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute.

Dr. Hashmi has also received a Certificate in Psychedelic- Assisted Therapies & Research from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2024.
